Wet weather in store for Florida through the weekend

Heavy showers and storms will be likely across much of Florida today into the weekend, as multiple weather features converge over the state. Southern Florida has already seen showers and storms over the past few days from tropical moisture and a system over the eastern Gulf of Mexico. This system will continue to aid in the development of showers and storms into the weekend. In addition, tropical moisture will continue to move northward into the region over the weekend, contributing to additional shower and storm development. It is likely that this system will develop this weekend, with some possibility of this system developing into a tropical depression or tropical storm. The National Hurricane Center is currently monitoring this system, giving it a 40% chance of development.

Rainfall totals for today through Sunday will likely exceed one inch across much of southern and eastern parts of Florida, with the eastern coastal regions of Florida likely receiving around two inches or more of rainfall. Some isolated areas could see in excess of three inches of rainfall by the time the weekend comes to a close. Rainfall of this magnitude could lead to some flash flooding concerns.
