Tropical Storm Emily brings flash flood threat

Tropical Storm Emily has made landfall along Florida's Gulf Coast in the Tampa/St. Petersburg metro area. Yesterday, Emily was a tiny area of low pressure and had a 10% chance of forming 48 hours out. The center of Emily moved ashore at 10:45 a.m. EDT on Anna Maria Island, near Bradenton, Florida with estimated maximum sustained winds of 45 mph. Rain rates of 1 to 3 inches per hour are possible, which could trigger some flash flooding. Little strengthening is expected once the system is over the Atlantic Ocean, and it should remain off the rest of the East Coast and not have any impacts beyond Florida.
