Severe storms forecast to affect the South, more rain for Midwest

Severe thunderstorms are expected to develop in the lower Mississippi Valley this afternoon ahead of an advancing cold front from Texas. The watch areas include eastern Texas through Louisiana, southern Arkansas and southwestern Mississippi. These storms will bring the threat of large hail, strong wind and tornadoes. Some areas could see 3-4 inches of rain, flash flood watches are in effect in northern Arkansas, central Illinois and Indiana as well as in eastern Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.
