Powerful storm to affect East Coast
A complex weather system will bring multiple threats from the Carolinas into the Northeast today and tomorrow. The greatest concerns will be high winds and heavy rainfall. High winds will be likely as the system moves through the Northeast tonight, where many locations having been issued high wind warnings by the National Weather Service. Wind gusts of 50 to 60 mph will be common in some parts of the Northeast, especially from Long Island into New England. Stronger wind gusts in excess of 60 mph will also be possible across this region, especially at higher elevations and along the coasts. These strong wind gusts will likely cause tree damage given that many leaves remain on trees throughout much of the Northeast. This could result in some power outages throughout the region. Wind advisories have also been issued predominately from the southern Appalachians into the Northeast. Winds in this region will also be gusty, with wind gusts to 50 mph.
