Severe thunderstorms and tornadoes forecast for Mississippi Valley

A cold front moving east will collide with warm, moist air from the Gulf of Mexico, setting the stage for severe thunderstorms in the Mississippi Valley. The main round of severe weather is forecast to come in the afternoon today with the threat of damaging winds, heavy rain and isolated tornadoes. Widespread power outages are possible as well as flash flooding which could lead to dangerous travel conditions.
