Strong winds, fire danger forecast for middle portions of the country

Winds gusts up to 60 mph are forecast for central portions of the country through Friday. Those in Eastern Montana to western New York should expect to see downed trees, power outages and possible showers - with some experiencing freezing rain. Outdoor items should be brought inside to prevent damage.

Additionally, portions of the southern Plains, including New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado and Kansas are under an extreme fire weather outlook due to strong winds and weeks of dry weather.
