Polar Vortex Predicted to Bring Arctic Blast, Increase in Chance of Snow

A shift in the polar vortex is forecast to bring temperatures 10-20°F below average to the central and eastern United States through midweek.

The coldest air is predicted to arrive on Monday night in the Plains and move south and east through midweek. Snow and snow squalls are possible on Monday into Tuesday night from the Upper Midwest to the Northeast. Heavy lake-effect snow will be triggered later Wednesday into Friday. 1-2 feet of snow is possible in some areas east of Lake Ontario.
