Wildfire Advice from the National Fire Protection Association

August 30, 2016

When it comes to wildfires, it’s not the hundred-foot flames that directly threaten a home – it’s the little things. Flying embers, also known as firebrands, can easily ignite pine needles on a roof or leaves not swept from a deck.

The National Fire Protection Association has created an educational video to help you understand how proper maintenance can drastically reduce the risk your home faces. The clips presented below highlight the importance and effectiveness of diligent home maintenance.

In test settings, it has been shown that litter in a home’s gutters or on its roof can be quickly ignited by firebrands.

Look around your home and identify whether your home is subject to these risks.

Roof material is important, but seasonal maintenance is just as crucial.

Through diligent attention to detail, this family’s home was spared from destruction.
