Mac OS Users: Beware of New Malware Threat

A recent malware threat targeting MacOS users is not detected or protected against by Apple’s Gatekeeper security system.

The malware is distributed through a Microsoft Word document sent as an email attachment. When the Word document is opened, the victim is prompted to enable macros. If the macros are allowed to run, they will download and install harmful code from a malicious server.

PURE recommends that you never enable macros on any type of document sent to you via email—even if you trust the sender, whose accounts or computers could have been compromised.
