AT&T to Discontinue 2G Cellular Service for Alarm Systems

Effective December 31, 2016, AT&T is discontinuing their 2G cellular service. After that time, alarm systems using AT&T’s cellular service that do not have 3G or 4G connection capabilities will no longer function.

Many alarm service companies use AT&T’s national network to communicate with in-home alarm systems. Newer systems or those which have been updated in the past few years are likely to already use 3G or 4G connections. If your system is older, however, you will need to upgrade your hardware.

To find out if your alarm system is going to be affected by this change, contact your alarm service company.
